Tips, tricks and solutions for your computer - as I think of them.
Problems installing Sims 2 ? Make sure you stop any anti virus software by stopping the service in the services control panel. Once you have installed Sims2, restart the computer and the anti virus software should start automatically. Don't forget to disconnect from the internet while you are doing this.
Software playing up ? Give your system a good cleanup, and remove all those naughty temporary files on your system. you will be surprised the amount of rubbish that gets stored by visiting web pages, often little scripts get left behind in your temporary are. Run disk cleanup from the Programs/Accessories/system tools folder.
Computer running slow ? Get a decent spyware program for free - the best is called spybot. All you need to do is occasionally download new spyware checks, immunize and run the tool. Type spybot in google, there are lots of sites that have it available.
The latest MSN messenger not working ? Do you have AOL as your Internet service provider, then this will be the problem. Microsoft decided in their new version that they would incorporate it to work with all instant messaging service, AOL were NOT happy with this and blocked MSN messenger from running from an AOL account
Do you want to create your own .wav and .mp3 files ? There are a few packages available for free, the best site is at sourceforge , then use their search facility to find Audacity, download and install the software. It does not create .mp3 files as it stands, as there is a patent for this. You can get the necessary .dll file by downloading the Lame package; and then extract the file called lame_enc.dll . When you first try and create an mp3 file, the Audacity software will ask for this file. If you are impatient, just search on the internet for a copy of this file. Just a warning, when you use this software, leave your computer alone whilst recording, it is very sensitive to mouse movement which adds distortion.
More to come.
